Revlon Color is on Tour! March 19, 2007

Last week we talked about Riders on the Storm an article written by John Densmore of the Doors.

Well, low and behold I am watching Ugly Betty and there it is….the NO FADE TOUR!! Revlon is documenting Sheryl Crow’s tour (and of course sponsoring it). All she has to do is appear in a commercial and of course dye her hair. the commercial opens like any tour documentary, but instead “Revlon had a new product they thought Sheryl Crow would be perfect for. Sheryl was unconvinced…especially when they told her she would have to actually use the product. Somehow she came around. And a six week tour was born…”

The commercial continues to document her on tour. Never forgetting to mention how wonderful her hair looks…WOW!! how did they pull this one off.

Let’s see….could the offer to sponsor her tour have anything to do with it? In the background Sheryl’s new song “not fade away” is playing and she playfully bounces around the stage and twirls her hair!

We’ll see how her fan’s react to this.

Will they cringe the way I do when I hear Oasis’s “All Around the world” on an AT&T commercial? (It’s a little known fact about me I love Oasis). Will her career suffer the way Jewel’s did? or will she gain a new fan base?

TO BE CONTINUED…

  1. Hello Says:

Actually, her fans are just happy that she’s well again after her bout with breast cancer. Revlon are involved in fundraising for breast cancer research, and Sheryl will be their spokesperson. Not Fade Away is not her new song, it’s just an I-Tunes single from which all proceeds go to breast cancer research.
So however much the color sucks (it does) and however much Revlon pay Sheryl, I’m not bothered. I can see why she would do this. And so can most of the fans on her forum.

I too am happy that she is well again after fighting breast cancer. I know how trying it can be. I watched a close family member go through a very tough time and she was not as fortunate.
I was not attacking Sheryl/Revlon by any means for helping the fight against breast cancer any money toward research is good money.
What I am unsure of however, is how pure Revlon’s intentions are. Wouldn’t having Sheryl Crow as a spokesperson increase overall revenue (not just for the color product alone)?
The commercial does not mention anything about the fight against breast cancer. And while most of us know that Sheryl Crow went through this awful ordeal. To the casual viewer (like me) this seems like an ad for Revlon hair color. Not promoting the fight against breast cancer.

Her loyal fans, I am sure will remain so.

But what price did she herself have to pay? Would she had agreed to do this ad if Revlon had not put her cause on the table and offered to donate/fundraise for the cause?
